The Pershing County High School girls  soccer played its first home games of the year against Fernley and Dayton this past week.

They lost 6-0 to Fernley and 5-0 to Dayton.

On Tuesday, Sept. 12, they traveled to Fallon to play Churchill County. On Wednesday, Sept. 13, they were in Winnemucca to play Lowry.

Results were not available at press time.

"We had several disconnects and miscommunications that led to the other teams scoring multiple times. Against Dayton, we were down 1-0 at the half but felt we had a chance at taking the game so we shifted from a defensive to an offensive lineup to get the win or at least the tie. Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalize on that," said coach Kelly Brooks.

Yasmin Acosta and Nayeli Acosta compete against the Fernley Vaqueros.

Pershing County finishes its string of road games on Friday, Sept. 22, against Elko and Saturday, Sept. 23, against Spring Creek.

They'll be back on their home field Friday, Sept. 29, against Ely and Saturday, Sept. 30, against West Wendover.

"The great thing about our girls is that they never give up and keep playing their hardest until the end," Brooks added.

The coach praised Miya Gallagher, Yasmin and Nayeli Acostea and Riley Harvey for their big plays in the center. Mady Grenz, Lexi Portillo, and Anika Happy shined on defense, she said. Goalie Lily Burt had several saves and continues to improve in the position.

"We didn't get the outcomes we wanted but will continue to work hard and progress as a team from here," said Brooks.
