The McDermitt High School volleyball team made its home debut this past Friday against Eureka in a 1A East battle.
All three sets were close, with the Vandals pulling away for a 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 victory.
Breena Crutcher provided the first two points for the Lady Bulldogs in the opening set with a kill and block, when Eureka went on a 10-3 run to lead 12-5.
A kill by Alexis Scott kept McDermitt within four points at 15-11.
The Lady Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 18-16 but a serving error late in the set, allowed the Vandals to pull away for the win, ending on a 7-2 run.
Eureka scored six of the first eight points of the second set, when McDermitt rallied for the next four points behind a tip from Kiarra Crutcher and two aces by Scott.
The Lady Bulldogs trailed 16-11, but fought back to closed the gap to 17-16 after an ace by Vina Tom and a tip by Scott. Trailing 21-19,
McDermitt scored the next three points off a kill by Scott and a pair of aces by Crutcher. The Lady Bulldogs had a serving error on the next point, allowing the Vandals to tie the set and eventually lead 24-22. McDermitt cut the gap to a point but Eureka scored the final point.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-2 advantage in the third set, with Eureka countering with an 8-3 run to lead 10-8. An ace by Nicolette Northrup tied the set at 12-12, but Eureka scored the next two points and did not trail again.
On Saturday, McDermitt made the long trip to Round Mountain and lost in four sets to the Knights in a non-conference match.
McDermitt travels to Jackpot on Friday and Wells on Saturday in 1A East play. The Lady Bucks travel into Oregon on Monday, Sept. 18, to play Jordan Valley.
McDermitt travels to Owyhee on Friday, Sept. 22.
