Lady Longhorns volleyball drop four matches in Northern 2A play

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team is still looking for its first win in the Northern 2A, after dropping its last four matches in league play. 

The Lady Longhorns are 0-5 in league play and 6-12 overall.


Incline def. BMHS 25-22, 25-14, 25-16

Battle Mountain hosted Incline on Friday, Sept. 1, and lost in three sets to the Highlanders. 

The Lady Longhorns led 17-15 in the first set, when the Highlanders came back with a 4-0 run to lead 19-17 and did not trail again.

Incline led by as many as eight points in the second set and 12 points in the third, when Battle Mountain made a late run at the end. The comeback was not enough to go to a fourth set.

Stevlana Martinez had a team-high four kills and four blocks, while Olivia Lemaire had three blocks and a kill. 

Both players added two aces and Asier Iturriaga and Thalia Gonzalez each had one ace. Lindsey Bleak and Iturriaga had six digs apiece.

North Tahoe def. BMHS 25-12, 25-6, 25-11

North Tahoe visited Battle Mountain on Saturday, Sept. 2, and won in three sets.

Martinez finished with three blocks and two kills and Lemaire added two blocks and a kill. Bleak had three digs.


Oasis Academy def. BMHS 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 14-25, 15-3

Battle Mountain traveled to Fallon this past Friday to take on Oasis Academy. The Bighorns moved up from the 1A and are in their first year of the Northern 2A,

The Bighorns won the first two sets, with the Lady Longhorns fighting back to send the match into the fifth set. The final set belonged to Oasis Academy, winning 15-3.


Yerington def. BMHS 25-5, 26-16, 25-9

Battle Mountain concluded the road trip with a three-set loss to Yerington, a perennial power in the Northern 2A.

Battle Mountain is at home for the next two weeks and hosts Silver Stage on Friday at 5 p.m. and Sierra Lutheran on Saturday at noon. 

Sierra Lutheran is in its first year in the 2A, moving up from the 1A.
