Lowry scored all four of its goals in the first half and had to hold on for the victory.

“We played a great first half and forgot how to play in the second,” said LHS coach Chris Entwistle. “We relaxed, took it easy and thought we were going to win easily. We need learn to play an entire game with intensity.

Alia Novi had a pair of goals in the win and Maite Avalos and Damiena Mentaberry each added one goal. Katlyn Gomez had an assist.

Cleo Fowler had three saves on the day.

The two teams played in the first week of the preseason at the Spring Creek tournament with the Indians winning.

Elko took advantage of a couple defensive break downs and scored in the 18th and 27th minute to lead 2-0.

Lowry cut the deficit in half in the 33rd minutes, as Avalos crossed a pass to Katlyn Esquibel, who put the ball in the back of the net.

Elko added a late goal in the 39th minute of the first half to lead 3-1 at halftime. The Indians were back on the board two minutes into the second half, when Elko had a clear look at the goal after Lowry thought they were offside. The Lady Bucks held up on the field but there was no whistle to stop play.

The Indians increased the advantage to 5-1 in the 57th minute, when the Lady Bucks began their rally.

Natalya Guizar scored goals in the 62nd and 68th minute to trim the lead to 5-3 and Avalos added a penalty kick in the 80th minute to make the score 5-4. However, the penalty kick was the final play, as the whistle blew on the ensuing restart.

“It’s another tale of to halves,” said the coach. “We knew Elko would be a tough team. We have to put 80 minutes together.”

Over Labor Day weekend, Lowry opened Northern 3A East play on the road at White Pine and West Wendover and won both matches 8-0.
