The Lowry High School cross country team was back on the course on Friday, Sept. 1, for the Fast Fernley 4K.
Brooklyn Swensen, a junior for the Buckaroos, placed eighth with a time of 20 minutes, 23 seconds.
Elko had the first three finishers in Lilianna Hayes (17:17), Elvia Lozano-Jimenez (17:55) and Tandi Ratliff (19:19).
Fernley’s Laila Kinnick (19:29) and Kori Scott (19:47) rounded out the top five.
On the boys side, Lowry’s Jace Frydendall (17:59), Lennox Zebroski (18:23) and Finn Baldwin (18:23) were 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively. Keaton Kenison placed 18th with a time of 20:15.
Elko senior Braylon Bagget won the boys race with a time of 12:12 and Fernley’s Kael Paz (14:27) was second. Elko’s Dexter Wallace (15:04), followed by Fernley’s Alex Mergell (15:59) and Cael Wilson (16:04).
Buckaroos compete in Tahoe City
Lowry traveled to Tahoe City, Calif., this past Friday for the North Tahoe Kiwanis Mountain Motivational Invitational.
In the 2-8-mile freshmen/sophomore girls race, freshman Natalia Cassinelli placed 13th with a time of 34.51 and sophomore Mariah Ramos, a sophomore, finished 14th at 35:28. North Tahoe’s Hailey Gordon won with a time of 24:27.
Swensen placed 22nd in the girls 3.3-mile varsity race with a time of 31:53. South Tahoe’s Lyla Landy won with a time of 25:14 and North Tahoe’s Britta Johnson was the runner-up at 26:06.
Mammoth’s Sierra Wright (26:47) and Tenaya Keogler (27:01) were third and fourth, respectively, and North Tahoe’s Kalena Steves rounded out the top five with a time of 27:56.
On the boys side, Baldwin finished 13th in the 2.8-mile freshman boys race at 26:09.
North Tahoe had the first three runners in Max Avril (20:14), Luka Karnickis (20:22) and Delyan Steves (21:06).
Frydendall placed eighth in the sophomore race, stopping the watch at 26:06. North Tahoe’s Ezra Schnierl won with a time of 21:35.
In the boys varsity race, Zebroski placed 41st with a time of 30:27 and Kenison was 46th at 34:10.
Mammoth’s Dane Karch won with a time of 22:03 in the 3.3-mile race.
Lowry is back in Fernley on Thursday for the Fernley Roadhill Invitational.
