The second stop on the Nevada High School Rodeo Association scheduled proved to be a winning cause for a number of Humboldt County and Battle Mountain cowboys and cowgirls.
Humboldt County had three cowgirls in the top six in barrel racing, with Brynn Barto leading the way with an average of 35.131. Emma Garijo was fourth at 36.406. and Matti DeLong placed eighth with an average of 37.375.
Battle Mountain’s Italy Jo Holman, Amelia Lancaster and Jorja Mashburn were 14th, 15th and 16th in the barrel racing average.
DeLong led the way in breakaway roping with an average of 6.33, which included third0place finishes in each performance. Garijo placed 11th in the average and Mashburn was 21st.
DeLong also paced the field in goat tying with an average of 17.080. She won the first performance at 8.79 and was third in the second performance.
Lancaster finished seventh in goat tying, Barto was 17th and Mashburn 21st.
Holman earned a victory for the Battle Mountain club in girls cutting with 141 points. She had performances of 69 and 72. DeLong placed fourth in girls cutting.
Garijo won the pole bending average for the second rodeo in a row with an average of 41.108. She won both performances at 20.905 and 20.203. Lancaster (third) and Mashburn (ninth) earned top-10 finishes for Battle Mountain. Humboldt County’s Leigh Johnson and Shailee Robison were 12th and 16th, respectively.
Amelia Lancaster and Eli Lancaster placed fourth in team roping with an average of 21.890.
The duo placed third in the first performance with a time of 9.19. Humboldt County’s Logan Marshall was ninth in team roping and the duo of Garijo and Walker River’s Noah Williams were 10th in team roping.
Battle Mountain’s Flint Schact won the bull riding with a score of 92 points. Wells’ Eyer Morrison had the only other complete ride with 86 points.
Eli Lancaster finished second in boys cutting with 141 points, while Humboldt County’s Cooper hill, Lane Byrd and Billy DeLong were third, fifth and seventh, respectively. Lovelock’s Jacob Burke was 10th in cutting.
Billy DeLong was the runner-up on saddle bronc with a ride of 94 points in the opening performance. Morrison, however had two full rides and won the average. DeLong placed fourth in steer wrestling and Lancaster was fifth.
DeLong placed fourth in tie-down roping and Marshall was 12th in the average.
Junior High
School Results
In the junior high division, Battle Mountain’s Landry Meiman won the barrel racing average at 36.480, as she won each of the performances.
Humboldt County’s Louise DeLong, Huntley Byrd and Taylor Hill placed third, 10th and 11th.
Battle Mountain’s Logan Lancaster placed fourth in boys breakaway roping and Humboldt County’s Jace Barto and Chance Thomas were sixth and seventh in the average in boys goat tying.
Humboldt County’s Tucker Root placed fourth in chute dogging and Huntley Byrd and Louise Delong were third and ninth in girls breakaway roping.
Meiman finished 10th in girls goat tying and Taylor Hill, Louise DeLong and Huntley Byrd were 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively.
Louise DeLong won the pole bending average at 42.451, which included a winning time of 21.201 in the first performance and Huntley Byrd was fourth. Burd knocked down a pole in the first performance but came back to win the second performance with a time of 21.167, the quickest on the weekend.
Taylor Hill and White Pine’s Sawyer Bliss were the runner-up in ribbon roping with a time of 40.660. Chance Thomas and Elko’s Charlotte Silva placed fifth.
Taylor Hill and Silva placed second in team roping. Louise DeLong and Alamo’s Raelee Christian were fifth in team roping.
The next stop for the association is Sept. 8-10 in Ely. Battle Mountain hosts its rodeo from Sept. 22-24.
