Who is there among us anymore to speak out for justice?
Who dares to call for peaceful negotiation and to promote order and societal tranquility?
Who is there to cry out against the fierce war crimes, ethnic cleansing and modern-day wholesale slaughter?
Is there a voice of reason, sanity and compassion still left in our world?
Who dares confront these awful horrors of war and demand we "Stop. For God's sake stop"?
What has brought us to this dreadful self-destructive tit-for-tat escalation of ever-increasing death, destruction and ruin?
How and why have we fallen from our normal percuits of life, living and happiness into this dark death wish plunge toward oblivion?
Why do so many of our world leaders appear as ruthless dictators bent on a headlong rush into World War Three?
Don't they know well that it results in lights out, end of game, total loss for you, I, them and all of humanity?
Questions, dear reader: so many questions and so few answers.
Heavy duty, fundamental, life or death, vital questions we must find answers to if we and the ones we love and care for are to survive and continue in this material world.
But somehow, at this point, we seem to have reached a slippery slope taking us lower and trying to dump us into a dark and dreadful abyss.
In viewing the overall situation, I picture the Middle East states, regions and religions as resembling pieces on a chess board. And as one after another starts to fall then this has an effect on others in close proximity. And with this, the major world powers tend to get involved in the building conflict as they get drawn into the vicious mix.
Wars, as you know, are not fought with spears, swords and muskets anymore. So many modern world militaries possess and have ready access to weapons of mass destruction. And, sadly, with our leaders' absence of moral, ethical and personal responsibility, there appears to be a woeful lack of deterrence in the actual deployment of these deadly nukes.
It only takes one, just one suicidal fool, a loan madman to pull the pin and set it all off!
And, dear reader, that unthinkable is within reach.
Unthinkable: it's an apt term for the consequences of such an act. Dramatic, dark, scary and final would be the result of such a lunatic action.
Don't you know that the taking of life of another leaves an unspeakable grave and lifelong stain on one's existence?
Regardless of how it is justified, it never goes away. It goes against all our natural instincts, emotions and reasons for living.
So, I see this drunkenness of hatred and acts of indisrement vengeance as much destructive on self as they are to those they are directed toward. And here today this looks like the dwindling spiral which has developed and is rapidly unraveling in the Middle East.
However, it is not just confined there. Echoes of its contasion are spreading worldwide in a backlash of extreme emotion.
We've had struggles and strife off and on all down through our long history. But now we are capable of doing far more damage than we did back in the days of slings and arrows.
I know, dear reader, that it's so difficult to confront and ponder on this horrific subject, It is for me as it must be for you. I would much rather dwell on far more pleasant subjects than watch the doomsday clock advance ever closer to midnight.
Tick tock.
Most surprisingly, Christ was born, lived and died right in the region now so engulfed in the flames of war. Back then he preached peace, love and forgiveness, qualities ever so woefully lacking by all concerned in this deadly conflict.
In this Middle East crossroads of the three major religions, all closely related in their basic beliefs, how could we have become so far removed from these basics?
This is the ultimate question I would ask and for which I fervently hope that we can soon find an answer.
