Bob Scott Campground closes for the Seasonal Forest Rolls Out

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Austin-Tonopah Ranger District has closed the Bob Scott Campground for the winter season with forecasted single-digit temperatures to protect the campground restroom facilities and water lines from freezing and bursting.

The campground is located just off U.S. Route 50, approximately 10 miles east of Austin, near the Bob Scott Summit.

Over the winter months, final planning will be completed for the Renovation of the Bob Scott Campground that will include reconstructing the existing campground access roads and RV/Trailer parking spurs, upgrade the public water system delivery from the storage tank to the campground, install frost-free spigots for three ADA sites and near the restroom.

The flush system restroom will be decommissioned and removed and replaced with a CXT.

The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) is the primary funding source for these improvements.

Bob Scott Campground upgrades will modernize the campground access, improve potable water quality for public use, and by installing a CXT restroom the period of use by the public will not be hindered by freezing temperatures and a longer open season.
