The McDermitt High School volleyball team celebrated senior night in style, with a 25-9, 25-20, 25-9 win over Wells this past Thursday night in McDermitt.
The Lady Bulldogs honored Breena Crutcher, Taylor Killsback and Nicolette Northup before the match and after the rout was on. McDermitt improved to 9-1 in the 1A East and 14-5 overall.
The first set was tied 3-3 in the opening set, when McDermitt went on a 12-0 run and never looked back. Vina Tom contributed a tip and kill during the stretch; Breena Crutcher added an ace and Killsback two kills.
The Lady Bulldogs scored the final five points of the set, ending with a kill from Northrup and an ace by Tom.
McDermitt scored three of the first four points of the second set, capped off by a tip from Alexis Scott, when Wells came back to go in front 9-8.
The Leopard lead grew to 14-10 but the Lady Bulldogs bounced back and took the lead for good at 17-16 on a kill by Kiarra Crutcher.
McDermitt grew the advantage to 21-17 but missed the next serve to keep Wells in the set. However, the Lady Bulldogs answered with a kill from Tom and a tip by Northrup to pull away.

The Lady Bulldogs ran with that momentum and scored the first six points, including a diving dig by Northrup that got back over the net and a point for McDermitt.
McDermitt had seven aces in the final set and won the match on a kill by Tom.
Eureka leads the 1A East at 10-1, with McDermitt second at 9-1.
The two teams split the season series, but Vandals holds the tiebreaker over the Lady Bulldogs.
The top seed receives a first-round bye in the regional tournament on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Elko High School. All seven teams advance to the tournament.
McDermitt hosts Jackpot on Thursday at 4 p.m.
