Swensen finishes ninth at Wells Invitational

The Lowry High School cross country team closed out the regular season this past Friday afternoon with the Wells Invitational at Chimney Rock Golf Course in Wells.

Brooklyn Swensen led the way for the Lowry girls with a ninth-place finish in a time of 25 minutes, 9 seconds.

Mariah Avalos, a sophomore, placed 16th at 26:53 and freshman Natalia Cassinelli was 19th, stopping the watch at 28:11.

Elko’s Lilianna Hayes won the race at 20:37 and Spring Creek had finishers second through eighth.

Spring Creek won the team championship with 20 points and Elko was second at 42. 

In the boys 5,000-meter race, sophomore Jace Frydendall placed 26th in a time of 21:04 and freshman Finn Baldwin was 37that 22:17. 

Junior Lennox Zebroski finished 42nd with a time of 22:46 and senior Keaton Kenison (23:29) was 47th.

Spring Creek’s Nathan Thomas took home the top spot with a time of 16:34. Elko’s Braylon Baggett placed second at 16:37 and Spring Creek’s Ian Mitchell (17:41), Spring Creek’s Scottie Adams (17:43) and Elko’s Dexter Wallace (18:22) completed the top five.

Spring Creek claimed the team title with 22 points and Elko (55) was second. 

Wells (89), Jackpot (106), West Wendover (125) and White Pine (128) rounded out the team scores.

The Northeastern Nevada JV Championships will take place Friday, Oct. 20, at Spring Creek Golf Course.

The Northern 3A Regional Championships is set for Friday, Oct. 27, at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. 

The girls run at 10:40 a.m. and the boys at 1:10 p.m.

The top four teams from the Northern Region meet and the top four teams from the Southern Region meet advance to the six-team Class 3A state championship meet.

The top seven individuals from teams that did not qualify for the state meet in the Northern Region meet and the top seven individuals from teams that did not qualify for the state meet in the Southern Region meet also advance to the Class 3A state meet.
