If the road trip tired out the Pershing County High School football team, it did not show on the field.
The Mustangs beat the West Wendover Wolverines 64-0 last Friday at WWHS.
The outcome extended the Mustangs' winning streak. They've blanked their past four opponents — Yerington, North Tahoe, Dayton, and West Wendover.
The Mustangs improved to 4-3 overall, and 4-1 in the 2A.
"We played well against West Wendover. The offensive line was excellent across the board, paving the way for rushing touchdowns. Brian Kauvaka and Efrain Aceves led the group," said coach Mike Brooks. Aceves (54) is a junior. Kauvaka (51) is a senior.
Senior wide receiver Eddie Herrera (#2) rushed for his first-ever touchdown at the end of the first half. In the second half, it was Angelo Gibson's (#25) turn to score his first touchdown. The junior wide receiver also wrestles.
"Defensively, Michael Reitz and Aaron Kienbaum landed interceptions. Taylor Montes made some nice tackles," said Brooks. It all added up to a happy ride home.
This Friday, the Mustangs host rival Battle Mountain (5-0) for senior night. The team and families will celebrate the achievements of Herrera, Kienbaum, Kauvaka, Conner Fecht and Bryce Gottschalk.
Battle Mountain is currently first in the 2A, so the Mustangs will work hard for a senior night victory.
The Mustangs play their last regular game of the year on the road against CASR on Saturday, Oct. 28.
