McDermitt volleyball beats Eureka, Lund on the road


The McDermitt High School volleyball team shook up the top of the 1A East standings this past weekend, with a five-set win over previously unbeaten Eureka.

The Vandals entered the match at 8-0 and swept the Lady Bulldogs earlier in the year in McDermitt. 

On Friday afternoon in Eureka three of the sets were decided by a 25-23 score.

McDermitt won the first set 25-23, only see Eureka roar back with a 25-12 win in the second set. That was the only set that was not close. 

The Vandals took a 2-1 advantage, winning the third set 25-23.

Eureka was not able to close out the match, as McDermitt won the fourth set 25-23 and claimed the match with a 15-10 victory in the fifth set.

In its final regular season match on the road, McDermitt beat Lund to improve to 9-1 in league play and 13-5 overall.

McDermitt hosts Wells on Saturday at 1 p.m.

McDermitt leads the 1A East at 9-1 and Eureka (8-1)-is second, followed by Owyhee (4-4) and Wells (4-4). 

The top seed receives a first-round bye in the 1A East Regional Championship in Elko on Saturday, Nov. 4.
