Lady Bucks collect four wins during the week

The Lowry High School girls soccer team continued its quest to host a home playoff match, extending its winning streak to six to improve to 14-5 overall and 12-3 in the Northern 3A East.

The Lady Bucks collected four wins last week, starting on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with a forfeit victory over Battle Mountain. 

The Lady Longhorns canceled the remainder of their season last week.


Lowry 9, 

Pershing County 0

Lowry traveled to Lovelock on Wednesday, Oct. 11, and beat Pershing County 9-0. The Lady Bucks scored all nine goals in the first half.

Senior Alia Novi recorded a hat trick with three goals and Natalya Guizar added two goals and three assists and Britain Backus contributed a pair of goals. 

Melene Nye, a senior, added a goal, as did fellow senior Katlyn Esquibel. Esquibel also had an assist, as did freshman Adalyn Entwistle.

Cleo Fowler faced just one shot on goal.


Lowry 4, 

White Pine 0

At the beginning of September, Lowry traveled to Ely to play White Pine and won 8-0. 

Since then, the Ladycats have shown improvement, including a win over Fernley, a s squad that beat the Lady Bucks.

It was a much closer contets the second time around on Friday in Winnemucca, as Lowry scored three times in the first half and won 4-0. 

Novi and Guizar had two goals apiece.

The first came on a shot from Guizar in the 13th minute and Novi added a penalty kick in the 23rd minute after Maite Avalos was fouled in the box. 

With a couple minutes le3ft in the first half, Guizar added her second goal. 

Her initial shot was saved but she reclaimed the rebound and put the shot away. Novi scored her second goal in the 52nd minute.

Nye and Avalos had assists and Fowler stopped three shots.


Lowry 10,

 West Wendover 0

Lowry finished out the week with a 10-0 win over West Wendover on Saturday, as the game ended in 60 minutes due to the mercy rule.

Novi collected a bother hat trick with three goals and Entwistle and Avalos each contributed two goals. Bryce Brinkerhoff, Nye and Esquibel each scored a goal.

Ava Swensen, Entwistle and Esquibel each had two assists. Kepa Hilbish and Avalos had one assist apiece. Fowler had just one shot on goal.

Lowry travels to Dayton on Friday for a 4:45 p.m. start and host Fernley on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. 

The regular season concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Fallon at 3:45 p.m.

Churchill County leads the Northern 3A East at 13-2-0. Elko is second at is 12-1-0 and the Lady Bucks are third at 12-3-0. Fernley holds the final playoff spot at 10-5-0.
