Lowry's Cassinelli named to Northern 3A girls golf first-team

Lowry's Katie Cassinelli is playing in the NIAA 3A State Championships in Mesquite. Cassinelli was named to the Northern 3A first team and had the second best average in the Northern 3A.

The Northern 3A girls golf regular season concluded with tournaments in South Tahoe and Truckee.

South Tahoe won the Northern 3A Regional Championship and Wooster and Fernley will join them in Mesquite this week for the NIAA 3A State Tournament.

Wooster senior Rya Montoya was named the Northern 3A MVP and Lowry’s Katie Cassinelli was named to the Northern 3A first team and will head to state as an individual. Cassinelli had the second-best average in the Northern 3A this fall.

Joining Cassinelli on the all-league, first team wew Nadia Velasquez (Fernley), Katharine Winer (Elko) Hazel Zastrow (Spring Creek), Emily Whetzel (Wooster) and Ava Wolfe (South Tahoe). 

The second team included, Piper Arnold (South Tahoe), Elizabeth Greenwell (Wooster) Charissa Chenoweth (Churchill County), Carly Cox (South Tahoe), Madison Cisneros (South Tahoe) and Bianca Luna (Elko).

At Lake Tahoe Golf Course on Monday, Oct. 9, South Tahoe won its home course with a round of 393. Elko was second at 408, followed by Spring Creek (420), Fernley (426) and Lowry (427).

Montoya was the low medalist with a round of 73 and  Velasquez (89) was second. Cassinelli placed third with round of 91.

Jordyn Medicine Cloud carded a 1-4, Lanie Novacek a 114 and Kailani Rodriguez had the final kept score at 118. Isabella Bartell shot 126 and Naomi Miller finished with a 141.

The regular season concluded on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Tahoe Donner Golf Course in Truckee. 

South Tahoe clinched the regional title by winning the tournament with a 406. Elko finished second at (418) and Fernley (429), Wooster (435) and Lowry (437) rounded out the top five.

Montoya was the medalist with a round of 74 and Cassinelli and  Winer tied for second at 89.

Medicine Cloud shot a 107, Novacek (118), Bartell (123), Rodriguez (128) and Bailey Miller (137).

The Meadows won the Southern 3A Regional Championship and will be joined in Mesquite by Boulder City and Virgin Valley.

 Boulder City’s Emmerson Hinds won the individual title with a 4-under 140 over two days.

The NIAA 3A State Tournament took place Tuesday and Wednesday in Mesquite. Results were not available at press time.
