The Battle Mountain High School girls golf team qualified for this week’s NIA 2A State Championships, with a third-place finish at the Northern 2A East Regional Championship on Oct. 12, at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko.
White Pine won the regional title with a score of 515, followed by Wells (557) and Battle Mountain (576). The top three teams advance to the state tournament.
Battle Mountain’s Jenna Chopp (126) and Lisette Haney (127), finished fifth and sixth, respectively, on the individual side.
Hadlee Bauer was 12th with a round of 148 and Jaylee Jorgensen (175) and Alyssa Laughton (180) rounded out the scores for the Longhorns.
Wells’ Evelyn Walz was in the individual champion, shooting 108.
White Pine’s Kylee Knudsen was the runner-up at 116 and Wells Tiffany Higbee (118) and Grace Otto (125) were third and fourth.
On Wednesday, Oct. 11, North Tahoe won the Northern 2A West Regional Championship at 383. Sierra Lutheran (498) and Virginia City (535) also advanced to the state championships.
Sage Ridge’s Morgan Hayes was the low medalist with a round of 87 and North Tahoe’s Addison Jones and Libby Webb tied for second with scores of 90.
The NIAA 2A State Championships were held Oct. 17-18 at Toiyabe Golf Club. Results were not available at press time.
