The Pershing County soccer team played Fernley and Dayton on the road last week and lost both games (7-0, 2-0).
Now they're back in Lovelock.
The Mustangs hosted CCHS (Fallon) on Tuesday and Lowry on Wednesday. Results were not available at press time.
Coach Kelly Brooks spoke about the team's improvement and potential starting with the Fernley game.
"We showed strength in the midfield and on defense. The girls are improving in movement of the ball, offensively and defensively," she said.
"We had a stronger showing in Dayton. Dayton scored about ten minutes into the first half but after that, the game was evenly matched. We played some really good soccer."
The Mustangs held Dayton down to only two goals instead of the five they scored last month.
"We came out strong. We had as many scoring opportunities as they did but were unable to capitalize on them in the second half. After they scored, putting us down 2-0, they focused on keeping the ball on our half and killing the clock,." Brooks said.
"We were unable to get back on their half of the field much in the second half so the final score was 2-0 which is a big improvement over the 5-0 loss to them the first time around. There's a lot of growth in our team. We need to work on capitalizing on scoring opportunities."
On Saturday, the girls go to Winnemucca to play Lowry JV.
Tuesday, Oct. 17, Lovelock hosts Elko at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, they host Spring Creek at 3:45. .
The Mustang's last home game of the year is on Saturday, Oct. 21. They'll play Yerington at 9 a.m. for senior day. The team's seniors include Maya Gallagher and Madyson Grenz.
