McDermitt takes down Carlin in four sets


The McDermitt High School volleyball team remained in the hunt for the top seed in the 1A East Regional Championships in November with a four-set victory over Carlin in McDermitt on Friday.

Carlin jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the first set, but McDermitt took control from there and dominated the set.  

Behind a pair of aces, the Lady Bulldogs took the lead at 7-6 and didn’t trail again. 

McDermitt ran away with a 25-12 win in the opening set, aided by a Carlin serving error on the final point.

The Lady Bulldogs ran with the momentum and led 14-8 in the second set. Carlin cut the gap to 21-17 and 23-20, when McDermitt collected a kill and a hitting error from the Railroaders to win 25-20.

Carlin did not go down without a white and led 18-12 in the third set, forcing McDermitt to take a timeout. 

The Lady Bulldogs came out on fire after the break and went on a 10-1 run to lead 22-19. 

Carlin cut the deficit to 22-21 with an ace and tied the set at 22 with a tip. With the set tied at 23, McDermitt committed a passing error and Carlin won the set 25-23 with an ace.

After surrendering the third set, McDermitt roared back to easily win the fourth set 25-12.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-1 in the 1A East and 11-5 overall. McDermitt travels to league-leading Eureka on Friday for a 4 p.m. start.

The Vandals are the only team to beat the Lady Bulldogs in league play. The road trip continues on Saturday at Lund.

McDermitt hosts Wells on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m.
