The Lowry High School girls soccer team picked up a 3-0 win over Spring Creek and beat Elko 3-2 this past weekend.

After struggling in a home loss to Churchill County and a week off in the schedule, the Lowry High School girls soccer team had some time refocus on the second half of the regular season.

The Lady Bucks faced a tough test out of the break with a road trip to Spring Creek and Elko this past weekend.

Lowry passed with flying colors, beating Spring Creek 3-0 on Friday and Elko 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Bucks improved to 9-3 in the Northern 3A East and 11-5 overall.

Spring Creek 0

Road trips to Spring Creek have been a house of horrors for Lowry – winless since 2013.

The Lady Bucks won a preseason game against Spring Creek this year in Spring Creek, but completed the season weep with the shutout.

Lowry had not swept Spring Creek in league play since at least 2010.

In a physical battle that saw Lowry collect 14 fouls and a handful of yellow cards, the Lady Bucks held a 2-0 advantage at halftime. Lowry added a third goal in the final 40 minutes.

Senior Alia Novi had a goal and assist and sophomores Natalya Guizar and Maite Avalos also added goals. Adalyn Entwistle and Britain Backus had one assist apiece.

Cleo Fowler had seven saves.

Lowry 3,

Elko 2

Lowry played Elko twice earlier in the season, losing 5-0 in a preseason tournament and 5-4 in the first league meeting.

It was a different story in Elko, as Lowry scored a pair of goals in the second half to knock off the previously undefeated Indians. Elko has given up eight goals in league play this season — seven of those are from Lowry.

Novi, Guizar and Avalos scored goals for the Lady Bucks. Maura Braatz and Backus had assists.

Fowler finished with four saves. It was Lowry first win against Elko in five years.

“The girls played their heart out, played as a team and demonstrated the potential we saw in August,” said LHS coach Chris Entwistle. “I am so very proud of them, all because it was all of them. We had some time to get focused again after the week off and the girls showed what they can do.”

Lowry traveled to Lovelock on Wednesday to play Pershing County and results were not available at press time.

Lowry’s game at Battle Mountain was canceled, as the Longhorns have canceled the remainder of their season.

Lowry hosts White Pine on Friday at 2 p.m. and West Wendover on Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
