Lowry cross country hosts annual meet

The Lowry High School cross country had a beautiful day to host its annual invitational on Friday afternoon at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course.

Spring Creek, Elko and Churchill County brought their teams to Winnemucca, as did Oasis Academy, Battle Mountain, Wells and Owyhee.

Jace Frydendall led the way for the Lowry boys with a 31st-place finish in a time of 21 minutes, 41 seconds. 

Finn Baldwin placed 42nd with a time of 23:11. Lennox Zebroski crossed the finish line in 44th with a time of 23:56 and Keaton Kenison stopped the watch at 24:02 to place 47th.

Elko’s Braylon Baggett (16:11) won the boys race and Spring Creek’s Nathan Thomas (16:29), Ian Mitchel (17:16), Scottie Adams (17:17) and Rhett White (17:52) rounded out the top five.

Spring Creek won the team title and Elko was second.

In the girls 3.1-mile race Brooklyn Sensen earned a 12th-place finish for Lowry in a time of 25:10. Natalia Cassinelli was 17th in a time of 27:33 and Mariah Avalos placed 24th at 29:38.

Elko’s Lilianna Haynes won the race with a time of 20:48 and teammate Reese Hatch (21:10) was second. Spring Creek had runners finish third through ninth to secure the team title. Avery Clayson (21:11) finished third, followed by Zoie Starkey (21:16) and Brianna Perchetti (22:11).

Lowry closes out the regular season at Wells on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Chimney Rock Golf Course.

The Northeastern Nevada JV Championships will take place Friday, Oct. 20, at Spring Creek Golf Course.

The Northern 3A Regional Championships is set for Friday, Oct. 27, at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. 

The girls run at 10:40 a.m. and the boys at 1:10 p.m.

The top four teams from the Northern Region meet and the top four teams from the Southern Region meet advance to the six-team Class 3A state championship meet.

The top seven individuals from teams that did not qualify for the state meet in the Northern Region meet and the top seven individuals from teams that did not qualify for the state meet in the Southern Region meet also advance to the Class 3A state meet.
