Lowry's Luke Fentress (9) and Carson Primeaux bring down Truckee 's Jackson Wicks during Friday's home game in Winnemucca.

Coming off two losses to Spring Creek and Elko after opening the Northern 3A season victorious, the Lowry High School football team had the tall task of hosting Truckee, the reigning 3A state champion, this past Friday as part of senior night in Winnemucca.

The Wolverines put a damper on senior night with a 43-14 victory to increase their win streak to 16 games.

Lowry dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Northern 3A.

Truckee scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter to lead 15-0.

After forcing the Buckaroos to put on the initial drive of the night, the Wolverines drove the ball and took off four minutes off the clock on a 67-yard drive.

Tamrat Dueber capped off the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run on fourth down.

Lowry picked up a first down on the next drive off a Jesse Jeronimo run but the drive eventually ended with a punt.

A 40-yard pass from Jace Estabrook to Luke Trotter quickly put Truckee in Lowry territory at the 31-yard line.

Lowry's Donovan Walker looks for room to run against the Truckee defense.

Moments later, Joe Birnbaum had a touchdown run called back on a penalty but the junior got a second chance and scored from four yards out to give Truckee a 15-0 lead with 2:44 left in the opening quarter.

Birnbaum had four rushing touchdowns on the night at 141 yards on eight carries.

Lowry went 3-and-out on its next possession and after keeping the drive alive with a fourth-down completion, Truckee scored four minutes into the second quarter on a 4-yard run by Birnbaum to lead 22-0.

The turnover bug that has hampered Lowry this season struck again with a fumble on the next drive and one play later, Estabrook connected with Miles Kelly-Caruthers for a 26-yard touchdown pass.

Truckee added one last score in the first half on a Birnbaum run to lead 36-0 at halftime.

The Wolverines score 90 seconds into the third quarter on a 50-yard run by Birnbaum for their final points of the night.

Lowry prevented the shutout and got on the board on the final play of the third quarter, as Joseph Vankuiken connected with Luke Fentress on a 10-yard pass on fourth down.

With two minutes left to play, Jeronimo found the end zone with a 5-yard run.

The Buckaroos are still in a playoff battle, as the top six teams advance to the Northern 3A playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Truckee and Elko are tied for the Northern 3A lead at 4-0 and the Indians travel to the Wolverines on Saturday night. Churchill County and Spring Creek are tied for third at 3-1 and Lowry and Fernley are tied for fifth at 1-3.

Lowry travels to Fernley on Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
