The Battle Mountain High School cross country team made the short trip to Elko this past Friday for the Run the Rubies Invitational.
Sophomore Eli Colver led the way for the Longhorns with a 10th-place finish in a time of 20 minutes, 15.25 seconds.
Freshman Moroni Colver was three spots back in 13th with a time of 20:27.15.
Sean Doney, a sophomore, was 20th at 21:16.31 and Tristan Colver, also a sophomore, placed 39th, stopping the clock at 23:52.
Elko’s Braylon Baggert (16:19.34) and Dexter Wallace (18:19.50) were first and second, respectively.
Wells' Gonzalo Roque was third at 18:23.72 and Pahrump Valley’s Aydon Veloz (19:28.59) and Jackpot’s Jorge Avila Fragoza (19:34.62) rounded out the top five.
Elko won the team title with 33 points and Pahrump Valley (67) was second.
On the girls side, sophomore Danielle Madalena finished eighth for Battle Mountain in a time of 24:38.03.
Fellow sophomore Sonja Sherve was 16th at 28:51.53.
Elko’s Lillianna Hayes (20:49.09), Reese Hatch (21:28.85) and Elvia Lozano-Jinenez (22:16.78) were the top three finishers. Elko also won the team title.
Battle Mountain travels to Winnemucca on Friday for the Lowry Invitational at 3 p.m.
