NV Energy reminds customers to remain vigilant of scams ahead of holiday season

As we move into the holiday season, NV Energy is reminding customers to remain vigilant and be on the lookout for scams - which tend to increase during the holiday season.

“We want all of our customers to have a safe and enjoyable holiday season, and make sure customers are aware of practices to protect themselves and their families and avoid falling victim to a scam,” said Antoine Tilmon, NV Energy Vice President of Customer Operations.

Common scams include phone calls that appear to come from NV Energy, demanding payment and threatening immediate disconnection.

Scammers often use “spoofing” tactics to make phone calls appear as if it’s coming from NV Energy. Some even use recordings that mimic NV Energy’s automated phone system.

Never provide any personal or account information to a caller. Hang up the phone immediately. Call NV Energy directly to verify the legitimacy of the call and/or to check the status of your account.

If you wish to verify the legitimacy of the call and/or check the status of your account, please call Customer Service directly at 775-834-4444 or 702-402-5555, depending on your service area. When you call, you will be asked to identify some personal information so we can ensure you are the account owner.

As a reminder, NV Energy will never ask for payment via Zelle, MoneyPak, Venmo, Bitcoin or QR Code. NV Energy will provide multiple notices directly on your bill and via U.S. Mail before any service interruptions are implemented.

Customers who suspect that they have been victims of fraud or who feel threatened during contact with a scammer should contact NV Energy at 702-402-SCAM or 775-834-SCAM to report the incident. Customers are also encouraged to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint or by calling (877)-FTC-help.
