The federal judge overseeing the lawsuit to block former President Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot denied a preliminary injunction and deferred ruling on a motion to dismiss the case last week.
Before weighing in on the case’s factual arguments, U.S. District Judge Richard F. Boulware II ruled that John Anthony Castro, the longshot GOP candidate behind the lawsuit, must officially “serve,” or deliver legal documents, to Trump within 30 days. Trump’s lawyers must provide Castro with a list of addresses within one week.
Boulware also said the Nevada Supreme Court’s ruling in a case challenging the February presidential primary elections could address lingering questions of standing. Castro filed to run in the primary, while Trump and others are participating in the party-run caucus.
Castro has filed longshot lawsuits in other states that seek to forbid Trump from running for president based on the 14th Amendment’s “insurrection” clause.
