Last Friday, the Pershing County High School football team hosted Coral Academy in the opening round of the 2023 playoffs.
The Mustangs beat the Falcons 56-8 and now the Mustangs advance to the next round. They'll host Lincoln County on Saturday, at 1 p.m.
The Mustangs dominated the field from the kickoff to the final buzzer.
QB Travis Donaldson started with a rushing touchdown. Before the second half, he added three passing and one defensive touchdown for a total of five.
KOLO-8 Sports Caravan credited Pershing with the Play of the Week, for Donaldson's "scoop and score."
They also named him the Player of the Week.
The Lynx found it hard to recover from interceptions by Donaldson and Luis Sanchez
Sophomore Trenton Rhodes brushes off a Coral Academy defender.
They were part of the reason the Falcons didn't score until the fourth quarter.
Trenton Rhodes and Tyrn Sam proved themselves as linebackers. Coach Mike Brooks gave shout-outs to Kaden Chambers, Brian Kauvaka and the offensive line.
Other highlights of the game included two rushing touchdowns from Izayuh McGlothin and two receiving touchdowns from Aaron Kienbaum. S
ophomore running back Taylor Montes scored a long touchdown reception. Denzel Zaldivar had a long rushing touchdown in the second half.
"Overall, we were happy with how the kids performed in a playoff game," said Brooks.

Two of the top high school football teams in Nevada will collide on Yanni Field at 1 p.m. next Saturday - the Mustangs and the Lincoln County Lynx from Panaca.
They've each worked hard to get to this point.
The Lynx have had a good season (5-5, overall, 2-2 in the 2A Southern). They recently avenged a one-point loss against Needles (22-21) by beating them (32-15).
Incline travels to Lake Mead on Saturday in the other 2A semifinal.
The championship game is set for Tuesday, Nov. 21.
