McDermitt closes regular season with sweep of Jackpot


The McDermitt High School volleyball team concluded its regular season at home this past Thursday afternoon with a 25-17, 25-9, 25-9 over Jackpot.

With the victory, the Lady Bulldogs clinched the No. 2 seed for the 1A East Regional Tournament to be held Saturday at Elko High School.

McDermitt tied Eureka for the top spot at 11-1, but the Vandals won the tiebreaker on sets won between the two matches.

Eureka swept McDermitt in the first meeting and the Lady Bulldogs won the final meeting in five sets in Eureka.

McDermitt will open the tournament against Jackpot on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. 

In the other match-up on the bottom half of the bracket, Wells or Owyhee plays Lund at 1 p.m. The two winners play at 4 p.m.

Owyhee or Wells takes on Carlin to begin the day at 10 a.m. and that winner plays Eureka at 2:30 p.m. The championship is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The top two finalists advance to the NIAA 1A State Championship in Reno from Nov. 9-11.

The first-round games on Thursday, Nov. 9, will take place at North Valleys High School. 

The semifinals and finals will take place Nov. 10-11 at the Virginia Street Gym on the Nevada campus.
