Lowry boys soccer team routs Churchill County to close out season

As the Lowry High School boys soccer team took to its home field for the regular season finale against Churchill County on Tuesday, Oct. 24, the Buckaroos knew they need a win and some help in Ely at the same time.

The Buckaroos accomplished its part of the bargain, beating the Greenwave 6-0 but West Wendover knocked off White Pine to clinch the No. 4 seed in the Northern 3A East.

Lowry concluded the season at 6-5-3 in the Northern 3A East and 5-7-4 overall.

The Buckaroos scored three goals in the first 17 minutes of the match, starting with a penalty kick from Rojelio Leon in the ninth minute.

 Lowry earned the kick after Churchill County was called for a foul in the box, as the Buckaroos were attempting to score.

Just a couple minutes later, the Churchill County goalie could not handle the shot from Nazerath Razo and Lowry concluded the first half scoring, as Leon took a pass from Danny Castaneda and found the back of the net.

Razo picked up his second goal of the day in the 50th minute and Leon completed the hat trick with his third goal in the 64th minute. 

Castaneda closed out the scoring in the 77th minute with a shot in the top corner of the net.
