Five Lovelock athletes qualified to compete at the NIAA 2A State Track and Field Championship in Henderson last Friday and Saturday.
Hayley Montes, Josiah Hunt, Luis Sanchez, Izayuh McGlothin and Denzel Zaldivar got there by hard work and determination.
North Tahoe (131.5), Lake Mead Christian (77) and Coral Academy (72) led the women's teams in points earned.
Lake Mead Christian (123), Lincoln County (114) and Coral Academy led the boy's team. The Lovelock girls and boys tallied six and eight points respectively with far fewer athletes.
Josiah Hunt set a personal record in the men's 200 meters with a speedy 23.55 seconds. He was the only freshman in the eight-man race. The others were juniors and seniors.
Freshman Hayley Montes set a personal record in the 300-meter hurdles (55.09) and she also competed in the 100-meter hurdles.
Hunt, Sanchez, McGlothin and Zaldivar ran the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
"We are proud of their efforts. They finished off a great season and are a relatively young group so we are looking forward to the future," said athletic director Mike Brooks.
