Wintry weather made a comeback at the Lovelock Invitational last Friday.
However, that didn't slow down athletes from over a dozen schools. They're used to competing come rain or shine.
"It started off rainy so it took some time to get the meet prepped but that's why we're happy to have a beautiful all-weather track," said athletic director Mike Brooks.
Pershing County’s Hayley Montes, Izayuh McGlothin, Josiah Hunt, Evan Glanton, Ramon Sanchez, Angelo Gibson, Luis Sanchez and Ashton Jimenez gave their all in each of their events.
Yasmin Acosta was recovering from an injury but hopes to compete in the regionals this weekend.
The boys shined in the relay races. Luis Sanchez, Gibson, McGlothin and Hunt finished first in the 4x100 (48.51).
Luis Sanchez, Jimenez, McGlothin and Hunt outran all their competitors in the 4x200 (1:41.60).
Luis Sanchez, Ramon Sanchez, Angelo Gibson and Ashton Jimenez placed third in the 4x400 (4:09.19).
Freshman Josiah Hunt placed first in the 200 meters (25.12) and second in the 100 meters (12.49). Evan Glanton set personal records in the 400 meters, 800 meters and long jump. Ramon Sanchez PRd in the long jump.
Battle Mountain made a strong showing. Their boys and girls each finished first in team points. The boys earned 154 points while the girls totaled 120.
Coaches Matt and Cassidie Fuller, Mike Brooks, Dave McLean, Lance Condie and others worked hard to make the day a success. Counselor Matthew Schottel handled the announcing to make sure the athletes got to their events on time.
"Teams traveled great distances so we're happy we provided them the opportunity to compete before the regionals. We're thankful to all the helpers and volunteers," Mike Brooks said.
The Northern 2A Regional Championships are this Friday and Saturday at Reed High School in Sparks.
