Longhorns travel to Sparks for regional meet

The Battle Mountain High School track and field team ended the regular season on a high note this past Friday, sweeping the team titles at the Pershing County Invitational in Lovelock.

Sean Bengoa and Armando Eusebio led a 1-4 finish in the 100-meter dash, as Bengoa won with a time of 12.34, followed by Eusebio at 12.91.

Elias Goodman was ninth in the event with a time of 13.34.

Bengoa (25.76) and Eusebio (26.25) were third and fourth in the 200 meters, while Wyatt Madalena placed eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.78.

Eli Colver set a personal best in the 1,600 meters to place ninth in a time of 6:18.99 and Edgar Sanchez Ruiz was 12th in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:54.72.

Andy Wall provided a strong performance in the hurdle events, as the junior won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.80 and he stopped the watch at 49.22 in the 300-meter hurdles to lace second.

Senior Ben Disbro was the runner-up in the shot put (40-0-50) and eighth in the discus with a toss of 93-10, while Ben George placed third in the discus (102-10.5) and 20th in the shot put at 28-9.

Andres Molina placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 100-11.75, a personal best and the freshman placed 20th in the shot put.

Bengoa (5-8) and Blake Stuart (5-6) were first and second in the high jump, while Alex Wall (4-4) and Aden Payzant (4-4) finished 10th and 11th, respectively.

Sean Scherer led a 2-4-5 finish in the pole vault, as the senior cleared 10-0 for a personal best. Spealman placed fourth at 6-6 and Anthony Lopez-Hernandez (6-0) was fifth.

Stuart swept the top spots on the long jump at 18-9.5, a personal best and the triple jump (38-10).

Eusebio placed third in the long jump with a mark of 17-11, Isaac Martinez (15-7) was ninth and Ari Kyllonen (32-10) and Scherer (31-3) were third and eighth in the triple jump.

The 4x200 relay of Bengoa, Elias Goodman, Stuart and Eusebio were second with a time of 1:41.82.

On the girls side, Danielle Madalena won the 3,200 meters with a personal-best time of 14:45.32 and the freshman was third in the 1,600 meters (6:51.93).

Jolena Ayers (14.80), Taylor Clark (15.00) and Tessa Ostler (15.38) were sixth, eighth and 10th in the 100 meters, while Ayers (29.78), Clark (30.57), Sonja Sherve (34.28) and Mackenzie Prescott (35.39) placed fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth in the 200 meters. Sherve added a fifth-place finish in the pole vault, with a personal-best mark of 5-6.

Ayers added runner-up finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:47.94, with teammate Jennifer Galvan (3:02.22) fifth. Addison Payzant placed sixth in the 400 meters in a time of 1:17.94, with teammates Paisley Mudd (1:25.41) and Anai Gonzalez (1:18.45) ninth and 12th, respectively.

Payzant was 11th in the high jump at 3-10, a personal best.

Lilly Peterson finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (21.85) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (1:09.82), with Ivy Peterson placing fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (1:02.89) and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (21.85).

Alexandra Sanchez-Ruiz placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 1:12.88.

The 4x200 relay of Clark, Bailey Elderkin, Ostler and Ayers were the runner-up with a time of 2:04.50.

Elderkin was second in the triple jump with a mark of 28-0 and Lisette Haney was fifth in the triple jump (25-0.5), seventh in the long jump (12-7) and ninth in the high jump (3-10). Elderkin was fourth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 6-0.

Galvan placed third in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 28-5 and the senior was seventh in the discus at 69-9.5, another personal best. Alexis Record placed fifth in the shot put (27-1.50).

the top three placers in each event from the Northern Region and the top three placers in each event from the Southern Region meet automatically advance to the state meet.

The remaining two state qualifiers will be determined by comparing the region meet final results and advancing the next best two marks per event, regardless of region affiliation and/or wind-aided marks.
