WINNEMUCCA – Nevada Outdoor School (NOS) received $50,000 from Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) to support their FY23 youth focused programs serving 3–17-year-olds across rural northern Nevada.
This funding provides high-quality fun and engaging outdoor exploration and education opportunities for youth that deepens their connection, understanding and respect for the natural world.
Programs include school-based Nature in My World programs for K-8th graders, Nature in the Park programs for 4–7-year-olds and Nature Explorers summer camps for 8–17-year-olds.
NOS youth programs motivate, inspire and empower the younger generation to increase their “Time Spent Outdoors” and take care of our special outdoor places. As a Leave No Trace Youth Accredited organization, NOS has proven its ability to meaningfully and effectively incorporate Leave No Trace principles and responsible recreation education into all its youth programs. Utilizing their Action. Impact.
Choice. (AIC) model and outdoor ethics philosophy, NOS programs challenge youth to analyze their actions and evaluate the impacts those actions have (both positive and negative).

These programs also teach youth to think critically about the natural world and their impacts on it, helping to keep our outdoor spaces and recreation areas healthy and open for current and future generations to enjoy.
This donation is important to help NOS fund our efforts to provide high-quality outdoor learning experiences, but it is also important because it helps us leverage this donation on other funding applications to be used to match many of our other grants.
