Mobile robotics students receive tuition grant to Universal Technical Institute

Nineteen Career and Technical Education (CTE) students from Lowry attended the Nevada SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference in Reno, NV on April 18 through the 21, competing in Additive Manufacturing, Carpentry, Diesel Equipment Technology, Electrical Construction Wiring, Mobile Robotics, Welding Fabrication, and Welding Sculpture.

Lowry’s SkillsUSA Advisors Andrew Meyer, Luca Bernardi and Scott Santos also attended the event.

Cooper Hill, Bailey Rorex and Bernardo Estrada earned the competition’s top three awards respectively in Electrical Construction Wiring.

Damon Aitken earned another consecutive first place award as the Nevada State Champion in Welding Sculpture and Michael Staas earned the second place award in Welding Sculpture. Aitken will have the opportunity to repeat as the National Champion in June.

Hunter Fears earned a Nevada State Champion award in Carpentry.

As a team, Brenton Baker, Travis Urain and Kaid Sanchez earned the second place award in Welding Fabrication.

Caleb Hales and Tanner Hatch earned the third place team award in Mobile Robotics, also earning them each a $2,000 tuition grant to the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) for their achievement.
