Tobey earns runner-up finish at Ranchers Invite


The McDermitt High School made a rare mid-week stop in Crane, Ore., for the Ranchers Invitational on Tuesday, April 25.


Loni Tobey led the way for the Bulldogs, as she placed second in the discus, with a personal-best throw of 76 feet, 3 inches.


The sophomore also placed second in the shot put with a toss of 25-10, another personal best. She placed 12th in the javelin at 34-3.


Cierra Smart finished third in the discus with a throw of 67-0 and the freshman set a personal best in the shot put at 23-9 to place ninth.


Fellow freshman Kiarra Crutcher placed sixth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 24-5.5 and she finished ninth in the discus at 58-11.


Reign Crutcher finished 12th in the discus with a personal-best throw of 44-0.50.


On the boys side, Kess Hinkey finished third in the discus with a toss of 95-6 and the sophomore finished fifth in the shot put (33-0.50).


AJ Farmer placed seventh in the shot put (27-7.50) and eighth in the discus (63-1.50) and eighth in the javelin (70-11).


McDermitt closes out the regular season on Friday in Lovelock at the Pershing County Invitational. The Northern 1A Regional Championship takes place May 12-13 at Reed High School in Sparks.
