The Lowry High School baseball team made its home finale this past weekend with a three-game series against Churchill County.
The Greenwave won the opening game 14-2 on Friday and swept a double header (10-0 and 19-3) on Saturday.
The Buckaroos dropped to 1-11 in the Northern 3A East and 4-18-1 overall.
Churchill County 14, Lowry 2
In Friday’s single contest, Churchill County used a pair of doubles and a single to score six runs in the top of the first inning. The Greenwave added three more runs in the second to lead 9-0.
The Buckaroos scored its two runs in the bottom of the second inning, as Adam Brooks led off with a walk, followed by a single by Jordan Bills. Kasyn Garner and Aidan Tregellas followed with singles of their own to drive in the runs.
Churchill County answered with four runs in the third inning and a single run in the fourth.
Erick Bergenheier, Brooks, Bills, Garner and Tregellas each had a hit for Lowry.
Angus Boyles started for the Buckaroos and suffered the loss. He allowed 13 runs (six earned) on 10 hits. Lowry committed six errors in the game, accounting for the seven unearned runs.
Kayd Garner threw the final two innings and allowed one run on one hit.
Churchill County 10, Lowry 0
In Saturday’s opening game, Churchill County led 3-0 going into the fourth inning and added three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively to pull away for the win.
The Buckaroos were held without a hit, as Brayden Dennis walked twice and Anthony Guzman and Bergenheier also walked.
Tregellas started for Lowry and took the loss in 4.1 innings of work. He allowed nine runs (four earned) on 11 hits.
He struck out two and walked one. ReiCyan Grau threw the final 1.2 innings and allowed one run (none earned) on one hit.
Churchill County 19, Lowry 3
In the series finale, the Greenwave jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and added 12 runs in the second inning.
Lowry picked up its first hit in the game, with a one-out single by Txema Bengochea. With two outs, Dennis followed with a double between center and left field to score Guzman, who walked earlier in the inning and Bengochea.
Lowry collected its third hit of the frame when Bergenheier singled home Dennis.
South Tahoe 14, Lowry 3
Lowry hosted South Tahoe on Tuesday, April 25, in make-up game postponed earlier in the year. Since the game was scheduled to be played in South Tahoe, the Vikings were the designated home team.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Lowry began a rally as Bills reached first base on a dropped third strike after the South Tahoe catcher threw the ball over the head of the Vikings’ first baseman.
Kasyn Garner, Guzman and Tregellas followed with singles to give the Buckaroos a 3-1 lead.
South Tahoe reclaimed the lead with five runs in the bottom of the second inning and the Vikings added seven runs in the fourth inning.
Dennis, Brooks, Kasyn Garner, Guzman and Tregellas had hits.
Lowry is scheduled to end the season this weekend in Dayton, beginning with a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Spring Creek leads the Northern 3A East at 11-1, with Elko and Fernley tied at 9-3.
South Tahoe has clinched the 3A West title at 12-0 and secured a first-round bye in the playoffs. North Valleys is second at 9-3 and Truckee is third at 6-6.
The top six teams advance to the Northern 3A Regional Championships May 11-13 at Wooster High School in Reno.
