Weather, road closures force teams to cancel events

The snowy weather that hit Humboldt County late Thursday night and Friday morning created a numerous of accidents and the closure of Interstate 80 westbound for a number of hours.


Those conditions and closure forced the Lowry High School swim team and track and field team to cancel their trips.


The Lowry swim team was scheduled to travel to Truckee on Friday to swim against Sage Ridge. 


The Buckaroos are scheduled to travel to Carson City on Friday to sim against South Tahoe at 1 p.m.


The Lowry track and field team will split its squad between Battle Mountain on Friday and the Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational in Sparks on Friday and Saturday. 


The Lowry High School softball games scheduled against Truckee and South Tahoe were postponed for the weekend and will be made up at a later date.


Lowry is scheduled to host Elko on Thursday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Friday at 11 a.m.


The Lowry baseball team had its Saturday contest with South Tahoe postponed. It will be made up a later date  


The Buckaroos were able to play Truckee on Friday. Lowry lost that game 12-1.

The McDermitt High School track and field team had to turn around as well and miss the Fernley Invitational due to accidents on US 95 and Interstate 80.


The Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to Pyramid Lake on Thursday for a 1 p.m. meet and Battle Mountain on Friday for a 9 a.m. start. 


The Battle Mountain High School track and field team could not get to Fernley as well last Friday.


The Longhorns host their meet on Friday at 9 a.m.
