Lowry drops road game to Truckee, South Tahoe match-up postponed

The Lowry High School baseball team was one of the few teams that was able to play this past weekend.


Despite some delays on Friday morning, the Buckaroos were able to get to Sparks and play Truckee in a 3A crossover match-up.


The Wolverines, a perennial power in the 3, picked up a 12-1 win over the Buckaroos, as Lowry dropped to 3-6-1 overall and 2-3 in crossover play with the Northern 3A West.


Truckee strung together three singles in the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead and then added five runs in the second inning to build a 7-0 advantage. 


The Wolverines added three more hits in the frame, including a double.


Lowry’s lone run came in the third inning, as Txema Bengochea led off with a single and advanced to third after a stolen base and error. 


The freshman scored on a ground out by Adam Brooks.


Truckee added two runs in the bottom of the third inning and closed the game out with three runs in the sixth.


The Buckaroos were held to three hits — one each by Zaq Growcock, Bengochea and Brooks.


Angus Boyles started an suffered the loss, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits. 


He struck out one and walked one. Kayd Garner threw the final 1.1 innings and gave up three runs on three hits. He struck out three and walked three.




Lowry/South Tahoe postponed


Lowry was scheduled to play South Tahoe on Saturday but that game was postponed and will be played at a late date.


Lowry is scheduled to host Elko on Thursday at 3 p.m. and Friday at 11 a.m. for a doubleheader.
