It was a big week for the Pershing County High School softball team.
On Tuesday, March 21, the Mustangs hosted Silver Stage, beating them 20-9. This past Friday, they hosted Mineral County for a doubleheader. Once again, the Mustangs came out on top (18-2, 16-1).
They ended the week on Saturday by sweeping Silver Stage on the road (18-0).
With the wins, Pershing County stands at 11-2 overall, and 5-0 in the Northern 2A. They've won the past 10 games by wide margins.
The team showed their versatility all week. Kaylen Halverson (13) put her skills to the test in Friday's wins against Mineral County.
"Kaylen came ready to play. She hit the ball well. She is holding down that third base position and she's so much fun to coach," Jordan McKinney said.
Freshman Riley Harvey (23) pitched her first high school game this weekend against Mineral County.
"I couldn't be prouder of her. She took a new role and did so well," McKinney said.
As if that wasn't enough, Aaliyah Allen hit the first home run of her high school years against Silver Stage on Tuesday.
It was also the Mustangs' first home run of the season. Allen hit it right down the line off the foul ball pole.
This Friday and Saturday, Pershing County plays the Wolverines in West Wendover for a triple header.
On Tuesday, April 4, the Mustangs face Incline for the third of a three-game series. On Saturday they host the North Tahoe Lakers in a doubleheader at 10 a.m. and noon.
