The Nevada High School Rodeo Association was back in action in Fallon on March 11-12 and a number of local cowboys and cowgirls performed well.
Humboldt County’s Brynn Barto took home the top spot in the barrel racing average with a time of 33.617.
She captured both performances with time of 17.018 and 16.599.
Barto was 18th in breakaway roping after missing her calf in the first performance. She came back to place ninth in the second performance in a time of 3.99.
Humboldt County’s Matti DeLong won the girls cutting average with scores of 67 and 72. She won the second performance. Allowing her to jump four spots to win the average.
DeLong earned the runner-up spot in pole bending with times of 23.485 and 22.020 and she was fourth in goat tying with a combined time of 19.150.
She placed 10th in the first performance and jumped to second in the final performance with a time of 8.79.
DeLong placed eighth in breakaway roping and 17th in barrel racing.
Billy DeLong captured the saddle bronc average title, as he was the only one with two successful rides.
He was second in the first performance with 65 points and he won the second performance with a ride of 74 points.
DeLong was the runner-up in steer wrestling with a time of 29.080.
He finished third in the first performance at 22.510 and won the second performance at 6.57, the quickest run on the weekend.
DeLong placed fifth in boys cutting with 139.5 points and he was 14th in tie-down roping.
Battle Mountain’s Desi Coombs won the pole bending average at 44.012, with top five runs of 22.031 and 21.981.
Coombs was 12th in barrel racing with a time of 20.020.
Battle Mountain’s Eli Lancaster claimed the top spot in boys cutting, winning each performance with scores of 73 and 71.50.
Humboldt County’s Cooper Hill placed eighth in boys cutting.
Battle Mountain’s Italy Jo Holman won the first performance of pole bending at 20.497 but did not have a time n the second performance and she finished third.
Holman finished fourth in girls cutting with 135 points and she earned a 10th-place finish in barrel racing.
Battle Mountain’s Amelia Lancaster placed eighth in pole bending, ninth in breakaway roping and 14th in barrel racing and Humboldt County’s Ashley Rookstool was eighth in girls cutting and Leigh Johnson finished 18th in pole bending.
With six events left in the season, Matti DeLong is second in the all-around cowgirl standings with 411 points.
Moapa Valley’s Rilee Christensen is first with 487 points.
Holman, Coombs and Amelia Lancaster are four, fifth and sixth, respectively. Barto sits in 16th.
On the boys side, Billy Delong has a big lead over Han Bunting (515.50-403) for the all-around cowboy honors. Eli Lancaster is eighth.
Junior high results
In the junior high division, Taylor Hill finished as the runner-up in barrel racing and Louise DeLong and Jorja Mashburn were eighth and 15th in the event.
Logan Lancaster and Bryce Fears were fifth and sixth in boys breakaway roping and Wyatt Thomas placed 12th and in boys cutting, Bryce Fears was seventh, Lane Byrd ninth and Wyatt Thomas 12th.
Bryce Fears finished sixth in the chute dogging, Logan Marshall seventh and in girls breakaway roping, Jorja Mashburn placed fifth and Louise DeLong and Huntley Byrd were eight and 10th.
Landry Meiman and Jorja Mashburn finished sixth and eighth in goat tying and Louise DeLong and Huntley Byrd placed 11th and 12th.
Huntley Byrd won the pole bending average and Jorja Mashburn collected an eighth-place finish in the event. Louise DeLong and Eureka’s Henry Buchanan were fourth in ribbon roping and Taylor Hill and Elko’s Wyatt Hurt placed ninth in ribbon roping.
Logan Marshall and Lane Byrd were second and third in tie-down roping and Logan Marshall and Wyatt Hurth were seventh in team roping and Logan Lancaster and Peter Mori placed eighth in team roping.
The Nevada High School Rodeo Association was in Fernley this past weekend and travel to Spanish Springs from April 7-9.
