Eight PCHS athletes compete in Fernley

The PCHS track team braved the cold in Fernley this past weekend. Hayley Montes, Yasmin Acosta, Luis Sanchez, Ramon Sanchez, Josiah Hunt, Izayuh McGlothin, Denzel Zaldivar and Ashton Jimenez competed against athletes from over 17 other schools.


"Overall, our track stars placed fourth or better in six events. They're right there and working hard to break into the top three at these big track meets," coach Matt Fuller said.


On the girls' side, freshman Hayley Montes competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 100-meter hurdles. 


She set personal bests in each event and placed second in the 100 meters at 13.45. She came in fourth in the 200 meters (30.27) and 100m hurdles (19.59). 


Sophomore Yasmin Acosta competed in the long jump and 200 meters. She PR'd in both and placed fourth in the long jump (13-02.50).


For the boys, Luis Sanchez, Ramon Sanchez, Ashton Jimenez and Josiah Hunt placed fourth in the 4x200 relay at a speed of 1:44.49 seconds.


Sophomore Luis Sanchez competed in the 200 meters and 400 meters. Ramon Sanchez, a freshman, competed in the long jump and PR'd in the 800 meters (2:48.33).


Freshman Josiah Hunt PR'd in the 100 meters (12.12) and placed fourth in the 200 meters (25.31).


Sophomore Izayuh McGlothin PR'd in the long jump with a leap of 15-07.50. 


He also competed in the 100 meters and PR'd in the 200 meters (26.87).


Sophomore Denzel Zaldivar competed in the 100m and PR'd in the 200 meters (26.39). 


Freshman Ashton Jimenez PR'd in the long jump (14-04.25), shot put (25-06) and 400 meters (1:03.78).


On Thursday, the track team competes in the Pyramid Lake Invitational at Pyramid Lake High School.
