BMHS baseball extends win streak to six

The Battle Mountain High School baseball team spent the end of last week at Golden Eagle Park in Sparks and picked up three wins over Incline to extend its winning streak to six games and move to 6-4 overall.


The Longhorns beat the Highlanders 5-2 on Thursday and swept a doubleheader on Friday 10-2 and 16-9.

In the series opener on Thursday, Battle Mountain was held scoreless for the first four innings, as Incline built a 2-0 advantage with single runs in the first and fourth innings.


The Longhorns broke through for four runs in the fifth inning and did not trail again. 


Battle Mountain tacked on an insurance run in the seventh inning to secure the win.


Battle Mountain pounded out 11 hits, with Jake Perrone collecting three hits to go with an RBI and run scored. Jr Vazquez, Matt Moore and Wiatt Kelley each had two hits. Moore added two RBI and also had a double.


Senior Anthony Silva collected the win in a complete-game effort for the Longhorns. 


He allowed two runs (on earned) on two hits. He struck out 11 and walked three.

Incline 2


Unlike the opener, Battle Mountain wasted little time to get in front in Friday’s opening game. The Longhorns plated six runs in the first inning and never looked back. Battle Mountain plated single runs in the second and fifth innings and closed out the scoring with a pir of runs in the sixth inning.


Asher Bundrock, Perrone and Sage Holte each had two hits and Perrone. Silva deed a triple and three RBI and Kelly added a double and two RBI.


Vazquez got the start and collected the victory in 6.2 innings of work on the mound. He allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits. He struck out 10 and walked three. Silva struck out the final batter of the game in relief.

Incline 9


After taking an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of the series finale, Battle Mountain had to rally from a 5-2 deficit to secure the series sweep.


The Longhorns tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the fourth inning and took a 10-5 advantage after scoring five runs in the fifth inning. Incline got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning, only to see Battle Mountain had four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to sweep the series.


Holte paced Battle Mountain with three hits, which included two doubles and three RBI. Silva added three hits, three runs scored and an RBI and Perrone and Kelley each had two hits. Kelley had a team-high four RBI and Perrone had three RBI in the win.


Perrone started for Battle Mountain and allowed six runs (two earned) on six hits in 4.1 innings of work,


The sophomore struck out nine and walked three. Silva and Holte threw the final 2.2 innings of work.


Battle Mountain is off this weekend and hosts Yerington on Friday, April 7, at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8, at 1 a.m.
