Lowry softball rolls past Hug, North Valleys

The constant schedule changes and not knowing where you are going to play on a given day hit the Lowry High School softball team this past weekend.


The Lady Bucks were scheduled to be in Reno on Friday and Saturday but those plans were scrapped and the games were moved to Churchill County High School in Fallon.


Lowry was originally set to play Hug on Saturday but that contest was moved to Friday and the Lady Bucks had little trouble with the Hawks, winning 20-2. 


Lowry was back in Fallon on Saturday and beat North Valleys 8-0, in a game originally scheduled for Friday. 


The Lady Bucks improved to 7-1 on the season and are 4-0 against the Northern 3A West.

Hug 2


Freshman Natalya Guizar got the start in the circle and earned the victory in her three innings of work. She allowed two runs on two hits and she struck out four.


Lowry scored 15 runs in the first inning, as Shelbie Hoyt led off with a double, followed by singles by Megan Cook and Bailey Peterson and a double by Cambria Tisue that scored Savannah Stoker, who walked and Peterson to give the Lady Bucks a 4-0 lead.


Maddison McClure added a single to score Tisue and later in the inning, Cook added a two-RBI triple and Peterson singled to score Stoker to make the score 11-0. 


Lowry added four more runs in the frame to lead 15-0.


After scoring a single run in the second inning, Lowry scored four more times in the third, as Hoyt and Cook singled to start the rally.


Cook and Peterson each had three hits, Hoyt added two and Tisue, McClure, Presley Hayes, Jada Matheny and Guizar had one hit apiece. 


Peterson had a team-high four RBI and Cook and Matheny each drove in three runs. Stoke, Tisue and Guizar added two RBI each.

North Valleys 0


Lowry was back on the same Fallon field on Saturday and senior Bree Dunckhorst gave up one hit to the Panthers in the shutout win. She struck out four and walked two. The lone North Valleys’ hit came in the sixth inning.


The Lady Bucks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, as Hayden Case singled home Crisslyn Rodrigues, who led off the frame by reaching on an error. 


Lowry added three runs in the third inning, as Hoyt led off with a single and eventually scored on a ground ball by Peterson.


Lowry tacked on a third run, as Savannah Stoker scored on passed ball and the scoring ended with a double by Tisue to plate Rodriguez.


Lowry plated two runs in the fourth inning, as Cook tripled home Case, who led off with a single and Cook scored on a sacrifice fly by Stoker.


The Lady Bucks tacked on single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.


Tisue was 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Case added three hits and Cook had two hits and two RBI. Matheny collected the other hit for the Lady Bucks.


As of Monday morning, Lowry is scheduled to host Truckee on Friday at 3 p.m. 


The Lady Bucks play South Tahoe on Saturday at 11 a.m. at a site to be determined.
