Bucks split with Hawks, Panthers

After finalizing where they were going to play this past weekend, the Lowry High School baseball team found itself in Fallon for a pair of games against Northern 3A West foes.


The Buckaroos started the weekend on Friday, with a 19-1 win over Hug, in a game originally scheduled for Saturday. 


Lowry was back at Churchill County High School on Saturday to play North Valleys and suffered an 11-3 loss. The Buckaroos are 3-5-1 on the season and 2-2 against the Northern 3A West.

The Lowry lineup saw the addition of a couple players that have been out since the beginning of the season, as the Buckaroos had little trouble with the Hawks. Lowry pounded put 17 hits and scored in every inning.


Sophomore Aidan Tregellas earned the win in his three innings of work, as he allowed one run (none earned) on one hit. He stuck out six and walked two. Kayd Garner threw the final inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced.


Lowry grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning, as Brayden Dennis singled home Txema Bengochea and rick Valencia. Dennis returned to the lineup after getting hurt in the opening weekend in Needles, Calif. Kasyn Garner and Jordan Bills also had singles in the four-run first inning.


The Buckaroos tacked on five runs in the second inning, as Bengochea and Valencia led off the frame with singles. Bengochea plated the fifth run on a passed ball and Kasyn Garner doubled home Adam Brooks and Valencia to make the score 8-0.


Eric Bergenheier kept the rally going with a single and after Bills reached base on an error, ReiCyan Grau plated both runners with a single to give the Buckaroos a 10-0 advantage.


Bengochea led off the inning for the third time, starting a three -run rally in the third inning, as Omar Gomez and Kasyn Garner added base hits to extend the lead to 13-0.


Hug scored its lone run in the bottom of the third inning, only to see Lowry answer with seven runs in the fourth inning.


Bengochea had a team-high three hits and Gomez, Kasyn Garner, Angus Boyles and Bergenheier each had two hits. Zaq Growcock, Grau, Bills, Brooks and Dennis had one hit apiece. Kasyn Garner drove in four runs, Boyles added three RBI and Dennis, Bills and Grau each had two RBI.




North Valleys 11, Lowry 3


Lowry closed out its stay in Fallon and at Churchill County High School on Saturday against North Valleys. The Panthers scored a single run in the opening inning and added three runs in the second and fourth inning to build a 7-0 lead on their way to the 11-3 win.


The Buckaroos left two runners on base in the top of the first inning and did not have another scoring threat until the fifth inning when they got on the scoreboard with a pair if runs. Bills led off the fifth inning and scored on an error off the bat of Kasyn Garner. Bengochea also singled and scored on a ground ball by Dennis.


North Valleys added four runs in the sixth inning to lead 11-2 and Lowry scored a single run in the seventh but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.


Bengochea, Dennis and Bills each had a hit and Bergenheier walked twice.


Brooks started for Lowry and suffered the loss in 3.2 innings of work. He allowed seven runs (four earned) on five hits. He walked five and struck out two.


As of Monday morning, Lowry is set to play Truckee on Friday. A time and site is to be determined.
