BMHS sweeps Silver Stage

After having a week off early in the season, the Battle Mountain High School softball team got back to business with three impressive wins at Silver Stage this past weekend.


The Lady Longhorns swept a doubleheader on Friday 22-3 and 16-1 and won the finale on Saturday 29-9 to improve to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Northern 2A.

Battle Mountain wasted little time to get on the scoreboard with nine runs in the top of the first inning. 


The offensive onslaught continued, as the Lady Longhorns added 12 in the second inning.


The Lady Longhorns pounded out 19 hits, with Shea Jones going 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, two RBI and two doubles. 


Thalia Gonzalez and Svetlana Martinez each added three hits and Addison Matheus, Eimilie Johnson and Kiana Gonzales. Ella Moore, Kelcee Robey and Jazmin Johnson had one hit each.


Shea Jones earned the victory in two innings of work, where she allowed one hit and struck out three.


Jennifer West pitched the final inning and allowed three runs on three hits and she walked one.




BMHS 16, Silver Stage 1


In the nightcap on Friday, the contest was tied at 1-1 after an inning, when Battle Mountain scored 12 runs in the second inning and did not look back.


The Lady Longhorns batted around for 14 hits, including three each from Matheus and Gonzales. Gonzales also added two RBI.


Heidy Amezcua and Asier Iturriaga had two hits apiece and Gonzalez, Lilliana Haney, Alissa Heinz and Johnson collected one hit each.


Aspen Swanger and West split time in the circle.

Silver Stage 9


Offense was at a premium in the series finale, as each team scored three runs apiece in the first inning and Silver Stage led 6-5 after two innings.


The Lady Longhorns grabbed the advantage for good, scoring six runs in the third inning. 


Battle Mountain added seven runs in the fourth and 11 in the fifth.


Robey was 4-for-6 in the contest with two walks and six runs scored. Battle Mountain had 31 hits.


Haney also collected four hits and drove in three runs, Shea Jones picked up three hits, including a home run and had four RBI. 


Gonzalez, Amezcua, West, Johnson, Gonzales and Moore had two hits apiece.


For the second game in a row, Swanger and West split time in the circle.


Battle Mountain travels to Reno this weekend to face Incline, beginning with a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. 


They will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.


The Lady Longhorns will be at home on April 7-8 to host Yerington.
