Wintry weather scrapped the PCHS track team's first meet of the year.
They practiced for three weeks and hoped to compete in Dayton on March 11.
The team picked up some new athletes this season and welcomed some returners. They are all freshmen and sophomores.
"A young team, but they are excited about competing," coach Matt Fuller said. He and Cassidie Fuller share coaching duties.
The roster includes Luis Sanchez, Ramon Sanchez, Josiah Hunt, Evan Glanton, Denzel Zaldivar, Izayuh McGlothin and Ashton Jimenez. The girls are Yasmin Acosta and Hayley Montes.
Last year the team said goodbye to two seniors — Kylee Fuller and Brayden Wagner.
They both competed at the State level. Wagner threw the discus over 117 feet and placed fourth. Fuller placed third in the mile, third in the 300m hurdles and second in the two-mile race.
Luis Sanchez narrowly missed making it to the State competition in the 400 meters. He's back to try again this season.
Windy, cold and rainy weather followed the team all last year. They're hoping for a sunnier 2023.
On Saturday, the Mustangs will compete in the Smitty Track Meet at Wooster High School.
