PCHS softball wins doubleheader against Smith Valley

The Pershing County softball team concluded its preseason by hosting Smith Valley for a doubleheader on Friday. Loyal fans cheered for the girls despite the cold and windy weather.

The Mustangs won the first game 14-4 and the nightcap 15-5. Coach Jordan McKinney looks forward to starting league play this Saturday.

"The girls played so well this weekend. If it was an indication of how the season will go, we'll be okay. They had a good weekend at bat and their defense was incredible," she said.

"Yasmine McKinney's defense was on point. Aaliyah Allen had a tremendous day behind the plate. Kaylen Halverson proved to be outstanding on third base. And Mady Grenz has grown so much and is getting to be so good."

With the wins, the girls stand at 4-2, overall. They host Incline on Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon. It will be Incline's first game of the year. Last season they finished up 3-15 in the league.

"I'm hoping we continue to build on this past weekend to become a real force in the 2A," McKinney said.
