PCHS baseball loses doubleheader to Smith Valley

The Pershing County High School baseball team hosted Smith Valley for a doubleheader on Friday. 


The Mustangs closed their preseason with two losses 3-2 in the opener and 18-8 in the second game. 


Pershing County came through with the hits. In the first game they outhit Smith Valley seven to three. Ayden Montes led with three hits in three at bats. 


Pitcher Trenton Rhodes allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out 13 and recording 15 outs. 


Blake Burrows went two innings, allowing three runs on one hit, striking out three and walking one. 


Pershing County and Smith Valley each got 11 hits in the second game of the doubleheader. However, the game slipped away from the Mustangs in the first inning. Four Smith Valley players singled to score seven runs.


The Mustangs fought until the end. Taylor Montes drove in four runners on singles in the first, fourth and sixth innings. Ayden Montes led an offensive onslaught in the fifth inning. He, Taylor Montes and Wyatt Diaz all drove in runs. Wyatt Diaz surrendered eight runs on five hits over two innings, striking out five. 


This Saturday Lovelock hosts the Incline Highlanders at 10 a.m. and noon.
