Obituary: Darrell Russell Carden Sr.

Darrell Russell Carden Sr., 74, passed away on March 7, 2023, at his home in Winnemucca, Nevada.

He was born on September 28, 1948, in Omak, Washington to Russell William and Cecelia Louise Louie Carden.

Darrell grew up in Desautel, Washington with his grandma and grandpa moving around on the reservation here and there.

He graduated from Inchelium High School and then went on to an Auto Body and Paint school in Spokane, Washington. 

After his schooling, he went to work hauling logs for a post and poles business all around Washington. 

He moved to Malta, Idaho in 1980, where he spent 8 years. During those 8 years, he changed semi tires at Durfees Truck Stops and then moved up to manager there.

He eventually settled in Nevada in 1988, moving originally to Mill City for 16 years and then Winnemucca for the last 19 years.  

In Nevada, he worked as a bartender for almost 30 years. 

Darrell married Marilyn Louise Rima on January 22, 1969. The two shared 44 years together before her passing. 

They shared 5 children together and many fond memories. 

He loved working horses and riding them too. He hunted and fished his whole life. 

He was a sports fan both professional and college, but he mostly loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports and rodeo. 

His family will miss his stories, his calming presence, and his great laugh. 

He loved his family more than anything and took great pride in showing off their pictures and bragging about their achievements. 

He is survived by his children, Joseph “Joe” A. Carden, Darrell “Wally” Russell Carden Jr., Shawn William Carden, Chester “Chet” Lewis Carden and Deborah Lea Cameron. 

His grandchildren, Brianne, Cammie, Ashley, Vince, Edward, Darrell, Anthony, Samantha, Zayinn, Wesley, Allison, Josie, Angie, Brandon, and Augustus. His great-grandchildren, Nayellie, Aaryah, Azar, Ty, Chester “Cheeto”, Alex, Charodyn, Carson, Sophia. 

His brothers, Alfred, Gary, Kenn, Kerry, and Aaron Carden, Rudy, Preston, and Ferol Boyd, and his sisters, Kaye, Bonnie, Darla, Linda, and Alison.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn. His parents, Russell and Cecilia Carden, his grandparents, Joseph and Anges Louie and his brothers, Calvin “Hoss”, Fred, Ronnie, and Wayne and his sisters, Sue, and Deena Kay. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2022, at 11 am at Sonoma Funeral Home with a burial to follow at the Winnemucca Cemetery in Winnemucca, Nevada.
