Lady Bucks roll past Railroaders, Colts

A little bit of snow and wind did not bother the Lowry High School softball team as it began 3A West crossover play with a 17-0 win over Sparks and a 21-1 victory over Wooster last week in Winnemucca.

With the two wins, the Lady Bucks improved to 5-1 on the season.

Lowry 17, 

Sparks 0

After the snow and hail melted on Wednesday, March 8, Lowry made its home debut and made short work on Sparks in the shutout victory.

Bree Dunckhorst allowed two hits and gave up a walk, while striking out 11 Railroader batters to collect the win in the circle.

Lowry plated eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Shelbie Hoyt led off the game with a single and later scored on passed ball.

After Megan Cook reached on an error, Savanah Stoker and Bailey Peterson singled and Crisslyn Rodriguez followed with a two-RBI double to give Lowry a 4-0 advantage.

The inning stayed alive, as Natalia Guizar reached base on a dropped third strike, allowing Rodriguez to score and as Lowry turned the line around, Hoyt and Stoker singled to drive in runs to make the score 8-0.

Cambria Tisue added to the scoring in the bottom of the third inning, clearing the bases with a three-RBI triple to score Hoyt, Cook and Stoker.

Stoker ended the game in the bottom of the fourth on the run rule with a grand slam to give Lowry the 17-0 win.

Stoker finished the day with three gits and seven RBI, while Hoyt was 4-f-4 with four runs scored and a RBI. Tisue and Rodriguez each added two hits and three and two RBI, respectively. Cook and Guizar had one hit apiece.

Lowry 21, 

Wooster 1

In the win over Wooster on Friday afternoon, Stoker threw a three-inning no hitter. The opening batter of the game walked and eventually scored on a passed ball, as the Colts led 1-0. Stoker struck out eight batters and walked two. 

The Lady Bucks put four runs on the board in the bottom of the first and cruised from there. Hoyt and Cook doubled to start the rally. Jada Matheny added a single to close out the inning for the Lady Bucks.

Lowry added seven runs in the second inning and 10 more in the third, as Stoker ended the contest on the rule for a second-straight game with a two-run home run that scored Cook.

The Lady Bucks pounded out 15 hits and did not have one strikeout. Cook and Matheny led the way with three hits apiece. The duo each had three RBI as well. Cook scored four runs and Matheny scored twice.

Hoyt and Stoker picked up two hits apiece, with Stoker scoring four runs and driving in three and Hoyt had two RBI and three runs scored.

Bailey Peterson, Maddison McClure, Tisue, Rodriguez and Guizar each had one hit. Peterson drove in three runs and McClure added two RBI.

In a schedule change, Lowry will host North Valleys on Friday at 3 p.m. and will travel to Hug on Saturday for a 11 a.m. first pitch.

The Lady Bucks are scheduled to play Truckee at North Valleys High School on Friday, March 24, at 3 p.m. 

Lowry is set to travel to South Tahoe on Saturday, March 25, but that game is likely to move as well.
