Stoker named 3A Player of the Year, Backus earns all-state, first team honors

Lowry High School junior Savannah Stoker was named the Northern 3A East, Northern 3A and 3A State Player of the Year for her performance during the season. 


The selections are chosen by the league coaches.


Stoker averaged 24.4 points a game, 12.1 rebounds and 4.3 steals, all team highs for the Lady Bucks. 


Stoker led the state in scoring average and overall points with 731.


Teammate Britain Backus was named the 3A all-state first team, as well to the first team in the 3A East and 3A North squad.  


Backus averaged 17.4 points a game, to go with 4.4 rebounds and 3.9 steals.


Backus was 11th in the state in scoring.


The duo helped Lowry to a 26-4 record and a second straight state title after beating Fernley 58-53 in the 3A championship game in Lawlor Events Center.


It was the eighth state title in program history — the fourth most in Nevada.


Lowry’s Chelsea Cabatbat was named the 3A Coach of the Year.


The 3A all-state, first team included Stoker, Backus, Ivy Williams (South Tahoe), Jaelece Wasson (Fernley), Claire Cox and Haylie Western of Moapa Valley and Kailani Martinez and Adryanna Avena of Pahrump Valley.


The all-state, second team as comprised of Ivy Williams (North Valleys), Aurora Eklund (Elko), Peyton Jacaway (Elko), Riley price (Virgin Valley), Paris Coleman (Pahrump Valley) and Akaylah Thrower (Somerset Losse).


Fernley’s Ralph Dunn and North Valleys’ Zach LeMay shared the Northern 3A Coach of the Year honor.


Stoker, Backus, Wasson, Eklund, Williams and Gonzalez were named to the Northern 3A first team. Jacaway, Jasmyne Torres and Kaiserita Otuafi of Fernley and Spring Creek’s Avery Beatty and Ella Buzzetti were chosen for the second team.


Ralph Dunn was named the Northern 3A East Coach of the Year.


The Northern 3A East first team included, Stoker, Backus, Wasson, Eklund, Torres and Otuafi. 


The second team was made up of Zoe Jarrett (Churchill County), Nadia Velasquez (Fernley), Beatty, Jacaway and Buzzetti.


Lowry’s Kailey Franklin and Mia Hernandez were named to the Northern 3A East honorable mention team. 


Franklin averaged 3.4 points and 4.7 rebounds a game.


Hernandez averaged 2.6 points a game, along with 1.6 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.6 assists a game.


The honorable mention team included Alysia Madigan (Elko), Isabela Torres (Elko), Jada Anastasio (Churchill County), Taylor Tollestrup (Fernley), Kensey Kreller (Fernley), Taylor Brunson (Spring Creek), Brynly Stewart (Spring Creek), Rachel Ply (Dayton) and Hallie Peterson (Dayton).
