Gary Don Wesson passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 26, 2023, in Winnemucca, Nevada.
Gary was born on July 29, 1947, to George William and Thelma Payne Wesson in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
Gary graduated from Victory Valley High School in Victorville, California. Lettering in football and basketball.
Gary was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and was sent straight to Vietnam four months out of high school.
Life was an adventure growing up with a large group of friends, riding motorcycles and competing in the Mojave Desert races.
Later playing Risk with Army Buddies until the wee hours of the morning.
On September 5, 1980, he married the love of his life, Beverly Davis in Dearing, Georgia, where he was stationed at the time.
As a Veteran of the Vietnam War, Gary continued to serve in the U.S. Army for 34 years achieving the rank of Sergeant 1st Class.
He served with honor in Vietnam and the Korean crisis. In his 34 years of service he earned the following: National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Star); Vietnam Service Medal (Silver Star); Republic of Vietnam Medal (with/60 Device); Army Commendation Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster); Army Achievement Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation Badge (w/Palm); Expert Badge Rifle M-16; Expert Badge Grenade/Pistol; NCO Professional Development Ribbons and Overseas Service Bars.
Retiring to Winnemucca after his Military Career, Gary went to work at Lone Tree.
After 17 years working for Lone Tree, Gary settled into real retirement and enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the LA Rams, riding his motorcycle, watching war documentaries, Stars Wars Movies, metal detecting and spending time with his wife Bev and their family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Beverly, daughter, Tonya (Loren) L. Wesson Phillips Hunewill, son, Joseph (Kellie) Thomas Wesson and grandchildren, Spencer J. Hunewill and Dallas R. Hunewill.
Gary is preceded in death by his grandparents, William Henry and Ruby Frazier Wesson; his parents, George William and Thelma Payne Wesson and his grandson, Logan H. Hunewill.
