Members of the Battle Mountain NNA Swim Team were in Minden at the Carson Valley Swim Center from Feb. 10-13 for the 2023 Valentine’s Day Age Group Open.
Nevaeh Serna qualified for short course JOs in the 11-12 division in seven events on March 10-12 in Santa Clara, Calif., and she also qualified for the Southwest age group Regionals March 30-April 2 in Folsom, Calif.
In Minden, Serna won the girls 11-12-year-old, 50-yard backstroke with a time of 32,91 seconds, a 1.48-second improvement of her previous best time. In addition, she won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.97
Serna was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke, as she took off nearly two seconds off her previous best time at 1:09.54.
She placed third in the 50-yard butterfly (32.72), a 1.80-second improvement at was third in the 200-yard freestyler at 2:15.85, a 6.80 second improvement. She also finished third in the 50-yard breaststroke at 39.82.
She took off more than three seconds of her previous best time in the 200-yard individual medley to place fourth in a time of 2:39.17.
Serna added fourth-place finishes in the 100-yard individual medley (1:14.81) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.54).
Shayne McMillin competed in the 13-14-year-old girls division and was eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (29.55) and eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time 1:25.70, which was a 20.37-second improvement.
McMillin placed 11th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.19) and 123th in the 200-yard freestyle )2:27.12) and 12th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.77). She took off 20 seconds in her 200-yard freestyle race.
Weston Reiva earned four third-place finishes in the boys 9-10-year-old by division. Those included the 50-yard backstroke (42.13), the 100-yard butterfly (42.37), the 100-yard freestyle (1:16.51) and the 50-yard freestyle (35.87).
He took off 13.34 seconds off his previous best time in the 50-yard breaststroke to place sixth at 58.88 and he finished fourth in the 100-yard individual medley.
